About the Author

Hi! My name is Sarah. I'm a wife, mama, and an advocate for fair trade practices and the power of people gathered over a hot meal.

Food is my greatest tool and also my stumbling block. I grew up watching my family make more room at the table for anyone who wanted the invitation and a hot meal, and I also starting eating as a way to give myself a big hug during childhood. Although the urge to stuff life down with food might never completely go away, taking good care of my body, spirit, and mind spills into every area of my life for the better, including the way I approach food and the way I approach life.

Truth be told, I have spent way too much time in my life numbing with food, recovering from my mistakes, obsessing over what I will and will not eat, creating unrealistic plans to "be better," reading spirit-tearing "health and fitness" magazines, and believing my worth was dictated by a number on the scale.
I now spend time nourishing myself with the way I eat, what I'm learning, the way I move my body, and finding and creating connections with more people at my table and across the globe. Self-nourishment spills over in positive ways into the rest of my life, including support, encouragement, and motivation for others in their own journey.

I am not a totally recovered emotional eater. I fall hard from time to time, and when I do, I try to be transparent about it. In the beginning, I hid my mistakes, thinking I needed to be strong for those I was leading. I've since learned that sometimes it's our willingness to show our weakness that makes us strong.

I decided to start this blog as a way of offering more- more transparency, more guinea pig reports (what's working and what's not), more product reviews, more of my meal plans and info on how and why I make health and fitness work for me. As someone who is trying to make more space at her table for more people, I'll also share how I'm making all of this fit into my budget! If this is something that is beneficial for you, I'd love it if you'd stick around. Read, ask questions, leave comments. I'm looking forward to continuing the conversation with you!
